The Rivière-du-Loup marine radio station began operations on April 1, 1965 and covered an area ranging from Île d'Orléans to Trois-Pistoles.

In its later years, the station provided a radiotelephony service on VHF and MF only as well as being a weather observation station. VCD once operated in radiotelegraphy, on the MF band.

The station always used the "VCD" call sign, even though VCD was originally used by the Grosse-Ile station at the start of the 20th century.

Upon its closing in May 1980, the station was located above the town of Rivière-du-Loup, more specifically on Fraserville road. All of the station's communications sites were taken over by CGRS Québec.
